Whether private or public, pools and spa’s need to be treated to remain free of harmful substances. Adults and children introduce all sorts of organic contaminants to the water such as bacteria, urine, sweat and saliva.
Sweat and urine consist of water, ammonia and urea, which when mixed with Chlorine react to produce unwanted by-products which consist of chloramines and chlorinated organic compounds, giving rise to odour and causing eye, nose and throat irritation.
Also some common disease-causing microorganisms such as cryptosporidium and Giardia are resistant to chlorine disinfection and can survive for days in pools. With the increasing outbreaks of waterborne diseases like cryptosporidium, suggests an urgent need to improve water treatment in recreational water.
Ultraviolet disinfection is the powerful chemical free solution to deactivate harmful microbes and has been successfully utilised in swimming pools for years.
UV is not designed to completely replace chlorine, but used together, chlorine dosing can be considerably reduced, resulting in no more burning blood-shot eyes and other negative health effects resulting in a much safer and pleasant environment to swim in.
A properly sized UV system is designed to meet a minimum of a 3 log reduction in pathogenic microorganisms.
Your ultra violet disinfection system would be mounted post filtration and after any chemical closing system. Pool water is circulated through the UV stainless steel chamber where treatment of the water takes place.
The sizing of a UV unit is done by taking the total volume of pool water and dividing it by the circulation time. Once we are provided this information, we can size a system to suit your application.
